Everyone can spare $12!!! Especially if it helps a child in need! Once upon a time, Founder Gina Woods, was admitted into the hospital and was placed in a room with a little girl who had no family or friends to visit her while she was recovering from brain surgery. One morning a nurse brought in a plush, puppy for the little girl, and gave it to her as a gift. When the little girl looked at it she threw it across the room. Gina, not understanding why she would throw the little dog, got out of her hospital bed, picked it up, and bringing it back to the little girl asked, “Honey, what’s wrong?” “It’s broken.” The little girl answered. Sure enough, the puppy’s ear was torn. Gina noticed some gauze lying on the table next to the bed. She began bandaging the head of the broken puppy, and soon it matched the little girl’s bandage. Gina told her, “It’s not broken. It’s got an “owie” like you. It’s your “Owie BowWowie™.” And… the little girl and Owie lived happily ever for ONLY $12 you can purchase an Owie BowWowie and a hospitalized child with profit!! http://www.owiebowwowie.com/about-owie.html For those of you who missed it, Ben Henderson’s Mom competed in the 8th International Open this past weekend. It was fun to watch Ben coach his Mom and appear nervous after she was submitted with an armbar. After seeing this, I started wondering how many “adult” Mother/Son competitors there are. I see lots of parent/child combos but, not too many that are both adults. Tyson and I are doing Pan Ams next week together. Anyone know if there are any other adult Family combos competing? Just curious! JOIN THEM! Lose weight (or just snack healthy) and they taste GREAT! I just started using this! It's amazing! :)

Siege MMA is hosting a self defense class on Saturday April 6th 2013 2:00pm ONLY $20 per person This class will be taught by Andrew Britten, Police Officer and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown Belt and Chris Mack, Former Muay Thai and Kick Boxing World Champion Siege MMA 8550 N 91st Ave Peoria, AZ 85345 www.seigemma.com Please call Andrew at 970-379-6342 to reserve your spot Everyone has a place in Jiu jitsu class..... The Higher belt: Teaches you, helps you, inspires you, pushes you and makes you realize you need to train more. The Lower belt: YOU teach the, help them, inspire them, push them and make them realize they need to train more. No matter how much mat time you have, how well your brain retains techniques, how naturally athletic you are, there is ALWAYS someone who can help you to be better (and that isn't always someone who is better then you-or bigger or stronger) It's great to have a training partner equal to your size and skill level but, for some of us that isn't always an option. I train with adult men weighing over 200 lbs to kids weighing under 80 lbs, some who are new, some who have been training many years. I try to get something from every roll, if its the big guy, I try to work on my defense, speed and trying to move ME instead of trying to move them. If it's the little guy (or girl) I try to work on my technique, maybe try some new things. Sometimes I have felt as if I'm taking someone else's "quality training time" but, the truth is, they could be using their time with me to focus more on technique and skill and try to keep in mind that I'm training for competition too! With the ongoing revelations about Lloyd Irvin, there is a lot of attention being put towards rape prevention (one good thing that has come of this). Thanks to BJJ artist and designer Seymour 'Meerkatsu' Yang (like his page on Facebook here) and renowned BJJ and MMA apparel company, Tatami Fightwear, a Rape Crisis Grapplethon will be held on the 4th May to raise money for Rape Crisis. Tatami sponsored athlete Pippa Granger (purple belt out of Checkmate BJJ in Huntington Beach) will be in attendance and trying to raise money! Please try to spare a few pounds/dollars to sponsor herehttp://www.justgiving.com/PippaBanana Every little helps! Thank you! :) When I first started training BJJ, I thought I was doing it as a hobby and a way to stay in shape. I NEVER thought I would compete or love it soooo much. However, it wasn't difficult to talk me into competing for the 1st time (only about a month after I started)
I remember hearing about Pan Ams and Worlds, I had this visual of this huge event with all the top competitors in the world competing and thought "that would be fun to go watch sometime" or "Tyson could probably compete in one of these tournaments at some point". NEVER did the thought cross my mind that "I" would be competing in a World Championship! In two weeks from today I, along with my son Tyson Antillon, my boyfriend/Coach Andrew Gardineer ,Coach Jesus Artesi, Joe Gomez, Claudio Rios and Robert Maloney will be making the drive to Irvine CA to compete in Pan Ams. The Pan-American Championship, often referred to colloquially as the "Pan Ams", is the largest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament held in North America. The event which is held annually by the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation. Representing one of the first steps toward internationalization of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the Pan-American Championship has been held annually since 1995. While the first event garnered only 250 athletes, the event has grown every year and now hosts thousands of competitors. This is VERY scary to me but, VERY exciting too! Wish us luck! As of today Lotus Club has 31 athletes signed up to compete!! Jiu Jiu's BJJ Blog: http://jiujiubjj.com/2013/02/26/women-and-bjj-periods/ One subject that wasn't touched was competing...Not only are you affected by discomfort, mood swings, cramps, breast pain, headaches, tiredness possible embarrassment (I like to compete in a white gi) but, it makes the weight cut a nightmare! Water retention, chocolate cravings, salt cravings, etc.... Believe me, I have thought about asking Gustavo to run his tournaments at a different time of the month lol Here's another interesting story on this issue: Chris Cyborg doesn't make weight do to "Girl Problems" http://fightlinker.com/cris-cyborgs-girl-problem/ |
