When we 1st decided to open an academy, I had no thoughts of teaching our kids program, maybe jump in and help once in awhile or fill in if someone needed a night off. As we got closer to opening, my son Tyson (who was most likely going to be in charge of the kids program) decided to move out to Mesa, closer to his work. My 1st thoughts were "oh no! who's going to teach kids class? There is no way, I will have the energy and maybe not even the time" (btw, for those who don't know this, I work a full time job as an office manager for a dentist, I get up at about 5am almost everyday and work until about 4 or 5pm) Well, there wasn't really many options, so Andrew and I decided that somehow we would have to make it work and we have to teach this class, tired, busy or not!
Looking back now, after 2 1/2 years of teaching the kids, we wouldn't have it any other way!

I absolutely LOVE teaching our kids program! And, never do I think "I HAVE to teach kids class" I think "I GET to teach kids class!" My concerns of being too tired or busy...well, it hasn't really been an issue. I usually get a second wind when the kids start to arrive. Teaching this program is so rewarding, I can't even put it into words! From the unique little personalities of each student to the wonderful parents/friends that have come into my life, I couldn't be more blessed and honored to say this is my Jiu Jitsu Family!
We are also sooooo lucky to have our awesome coaches, Andy, Chris and asst. coach Deshawn on board! "It takes a village to teach kids class" between the 5 of us (and sometimes even couple of other students helping out) we have our hands full! The safety of the kids is HIGH priority and it takes lot's of eyes! Our kids class has grown from the 8 student "Garage Warriors" to about 70 kids strong!!
