I have been competing in jiu jitsu for almost 5 years now, I have experienced many exciting wins but, I have also experienced some losses and poor performances. Losing is never fun but, it certainly does put perspective on the areas we need to improve! I have also experienced feeling like I let others down. As a member of a team and a student, you feel as if you have disappointed your instructor or your teammates by not bringing home the Gold or making a dumb mistake during a match.
This past week I had a chance to be on the other end of the instructor/student spectrum. We had several students compete and not for a moment did I feel let down by any of their performance's! As a team we only brought home 1 Gold medal but, I felt so proud of ALL of our students who put their skills to the test and they should be proud of themselves as well! We saw huge improvements in everyone's games, students with only 3 weeks of training hold their own against tough opponents, perfectly executed submissions and take downs and we saw areas we need to work on!
Just having the courage to step out there in front of a crowd and try to perform is incredibly tough and a huge accomplishment in itself! Most of our students also had either Open Weight or an exhibition match, I was also very proud of them for getting out there after losing a match and going to battle again!
Keep up the great work Team De Boa! We will be bringing home the Bling in the future as we continue to grow and learn!
