I have been writing my blog for almost 5 years now, I write it to get out my feelings, share fun moments and hope to inspire more women to try jiu jitsu and see how it can change their lives.
Throughout the years I have received many messages from women saying they can relate or “thanks for the great” info etc….. This past weekend, I attended an all female open mat, there were about 60 women there and it was a great time. Towards the end of the event, a lady approached me with tears in her eyes; she stated that I had changed her life! She had started jiu jitsu a few years back, she went for a short while than started making excuses for missing class….kids, husband, sore body, work and the list goes on….eventually she stopped going all together. Some time later she came across a blog I wrote about “having balance” it touched on my kids, husband, full time job, school and making time for my MUCH NEEDED training!
She read this blog again and again, and then said to herself “what’s my excuse?” She made a decision to make time for jiu jitsu, she lost 30lbs, lowered her blood pressure and feels amazing and very proud of herself! She was wearing a white belt with 3 stripes when I met her, what a great accomplishment! (btw…she is 39)
Being told “you changed my life” feels amazing! Being able to make a difference in even just one person’s life is awesome and makes all the years of sharing my experience worthwhile.
