When I accepted the opportunity to compete at fight 2 win, my husband (who was also on the card) said "are you really going to do this?" knowing I struggle with performance anxiety even in small tournaments. I told him "I feel like this is an amazing opportunity that I may not get a chance to do ever again and I NEED to do it". With that being said...I only had about 10 panic attacks when thinking about it for the month to follow but, I did it!!
I am a little disappointed for letting my nerves get to me but, still very proud of myself for facing one of my biggest fears.
My husband, son & my training partner/friend were also on the fight card, making this even more special for me!
Andrew got the win by decision, Tyson won with a sub and Destiny (who took the fight with only 1 day notice) lost by refs decision but, had a great fight against a girl who recently received her Brown belt (Destiny just received her Purple 2 weeks ago).
I can't say enough about the tremendous support, not only from our team but, by the entire AZ Jiu Jitsu community! It was surreal walking out to that stage, with my own "walk out song" seeing and hearing this huge crowd yelling my name, chanting and even holding up signs with my name on them, lights flashing, smoke...indescribable!
Thank you ALL for making this an experience that I won't soon forget!
Thank you Hyperfly for hooking me up with some nice gear for weigh ins and OSS Physical Therapy for you continued support and putting me back together when needed.
BIG thanks to Seth Daniels and Fight 2 Win for allowing me to participate in this very well ran show with great payback to the fighters as well! Hoodlum Photography for the beautiful fight photos and the best "family" picture ever!
And last but, not least...Vanessa Wexler for accepting the match against me, giving me a very tough match and being so kind afterward with some very sweet words! Big Respect for this very classy lady!
If you get the opportunity to fight in this show...take it! You will not be disappointed!
